Module 4 - BUILD

Implementing a digital escape game

8. Useful tools and resources

Tool 1 – Troubleshooting guide (common issues + fixes)

Issue 1: “Players don’t know what to do”

  • Rewrite instructions in clearer and concise sentences: “What to do:”
  • Add a visible “Start here” marker and concrete hints for each step.

Issue 2: “Nothing is clickable”

  • Move the clickable object to the top layer
  • Add a label or glow effect to show it’s interactive

Issue 3: “Buttons go to the wrong screen”

  • Rename pages with numbers (00/01/02)
  • Retest every button after renaming

Issue 4: “Audio/video doesn’t work on some devices”

  • Avoid autoplay, include a “play” button option.
  • Provide text alternative and keep gameplay possible without media

Issue 5: “External tool/embed fails”

  • Open the external tool in a new tab instead of embedding
  • Provide a backup clue method within and outside of Genially

Tool 2 – Full module checklist

4.1

□ I chose a flow: linear (or branching if confident).

□ I decided: single screen (or multiple devices if needed).

4.2

□ My Genially project is created and saved properly.

□ Each page has a clear goal or instruction area.

□ I can navigate from one screen to another in Preview.

□ I duplicated a backup version.

4.3

□ My assets are organised in folders with clear names.

□ Backgrounds are readable (text can be seen clearly).

□ Audio and video elements are short and optional.

4.4

□ Every puzzle has an interaction type (click/type/drag).

□ Every interaction gives feedback for correct and incorrect choices.

□ Success always unlocks something clear (message, next page).

□ Wrong answers get adequate feedback and redirection with hints.

4.5

□ Instructions are short and always visible.

□ Text is readable on mobile, tablet and laptop.

□ Audio and video elements are optional and have text alternatives.

□ Key elements and buttons are large enough for touch screens.

4.6

□ I completed a full solo test (navigation, interactions, media).

□ I ran at least one playtest with 2 other people.

□ I logged issues and fixed high-priority ones.

4.7

□ I tested the link on a second device.

□ I created at least two backups (versions + asset folder).

□ I have a low-connectivity plan if relevant.
