Module 1 - START
Conceptualising an escape game on social entrepreneurship
4. Translating skills into learning outcomes
4.1 Why learning outcomes are essential
Learning outcomes define what learners will know, understand, or be able to do after completing the escape game. Clear learning outcomes:
- Guide puzzle and narrative design
- Support assessment and reflection
- Ensure educational coherence across modules
4.2 Characteristics of effective learning outcomes
Learning outcomes should be:
- Specific: clearly state the expected achievement
- Measurable: observable through gameplay or reflection
- Achievable: realistic within the game context
- Relevant: aligned with social entrepreneurship goals
Learning outcomes can also be connected to recognised educational frameworks such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, which supports the progression from basic understanding to higher-order thinking skills such as analysis, evaluation, and creation.

4.3 Examples of learning outcomes for an escape game
Instead of vague objectives like “understand social entrepreneurship”, outcomes should be formulated as:
- “Participants will be able to identify key stakeholders affected by a social problem.”
- “Participants will collaboratively allocate limited resources to maximise social impact.”
- “Participants will assess the potential social and economic impact of different solution options.”
- “Participants will demonstrate leadership and communication skills under time constraints.”
Each learning outcome should later be linked to at least one puzzle or decision point in the game.
